VPN: Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

This section should help you get connected if you have a problem. If you can connect, but have a problem accessing a resource, then have a look at the Remote Workers section of the Intranet – your question may be answered there.

My Username and password are refused

You are being presented the following message:

Negotiation with gateway Coexis-GW at site 213.123.x.x has failed. Access denied – wrong user name or password.

Ensure you are entering your username in lowercase. Follow the instructions in Appendix A for entering the password.
If you get the password wrong, wait until the tokencode changes, then retry.

“Gateway not responding”

You are receiving the message:

Gateway not responding, connection failed

This is caused by a software firewall on the computer preventing access to the Coexis firewall.

You may also have a 3rd party firewall enabled, these are sometimes included in virus scanners. Some firewalls allow certain applications through, if this is an option allow SR_GUI.exe – this is the VPN application. For troubleshooting purposes you may want to disable the virus scanner and or firewall temporarily.

I can’t access certain resources

Your settings may be out of date:

  • Click the SecureClient icon (by the clock) and select settings...
  • Click Download Updates... button

When I boot my computer I get the message "VPN-1 SecureClient is not configured properly..."

This happens on some systems, to get around it change SecureClient interface to 'Extended'.

  • Click the SecureClient icon (by the clock) and select settings...
  • Click on the Advanced tab
  • Select Extended view and click ok

SecureClient will then be restarted

I’m connecting through a router and it still won’t work

If you are connecting through a proxy server of router, you need to ensure you haven't got an IP address in the 192.168.1.x range. You can find this by opening the Command Prompt and typing ipconifg. If you have you will need to configure your router to use a different address and assign different address through DHCP. I'd recommend 172.16.1.1
